 FRIENDS OF BILTON (F.O.B)

Who Are We & What Are We?

Friends of Bilton was formed in 1999 to act as a parental support network and, in the interest of our children to work alongside the school and its objectives.  It is an organisation for ALL parents with children at Bilton Grange Preparatory School.  There is a small committee, with representation from parents of each year group, and an Hon. Chair person, Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer who is nominated each year.

Our main aim is is to bring together all parents of the school on regular occasions whether by means of coffee mornings or exciting and fun social events.  Past events have included Wine Tasting, An Evening with world class snooker player Willy Thorne, an evening with Dickens, a curry night ….to name just a few.

The FOB also plays a role in promoting school events to encourage parents’ involvement and participation e.g. help in supporting the termly Book Fairs and Open Days.  The FOB does not have a role, wither advisory or executive in the running of the school and nor are we a complaints forum or pressure group.  Compliments and complaints should be passed to the Headmaster!

We generally meet once a month during term time to discuss new ideas, upcoming events, feedback on previous events and to also welcome any new members (oh and have a cup of tea or coffee!).

Our social events are a great opportunity for parents across the whole school to all meet each other and make new friends. Whilst these functions do prove a great opportunity to meet each other our secondary objective is to also raise money for local children’s charities. We feel it is important that whilst our children are so privileged to go to such a wonderful school we also like to focus on putting something back into the community – thus helping those not so fortunate.

FAQ

Can anyone join the FOB Committee?

Yes of course we welcome any parent wishing to be part of the team. Just keep an eye on the web site for details of the next meeting and please do come along.

How long do the meetings take and is there a lot of work involved?

The meetings generally take about an hour, and are held in the school at the end of the school day.  The amount of work involved depends on the event we are organising and how much time you as an individual can offer. Everything is greatly appreciated whether assisting in organising an event or just simply putting forward new ideas and suggestions.

How do you choose which Charity you give to?

It is generally a case of suggestions being put forward, discussed by the team and then a unanimous decision made as to who should benefit. We welcome new ideas and suggestions.
