Colts Win at Winchester House
On Saturday, the Colts A and Colts B continued their good start to the season with victories against Winchester House. Absences meant wholesale changes in both teams although those promoted to each team were keen to impress and stake their claim for a more regular berth.
The Colts A took time to settle and could not find the form that they had shown against Foremarke Hall with weak and errant passes common as well as a lack of width. Despite this, we were able to create several chances without really troubling the goalkeeper. Harry Mitchell and Ben Harris looked secure in defence and repelled many attacks. A moment of hesitation on the left resulted in Winchester House moving the ball quickly to find the player free in the āDā who gave Oliver Park no chance.
The second half was a different story with the Colts A finding confidence in passing the ball around more forcibly and accurately as well as bringing Noah Martle and Jonty Craven into the game more. This stretched the Winchester House defence and gaps began to appear. Some quick thinking from Marcus Tarrant found Noah free in the āDā to equalise. This spurred us on as we pushed for a winner. After a succession of short corners, Noah evaded the runner to strike the ball passed the advancing keeper. Winchester House responded although Oliver was able to make some comfortable saves with Ben and Harry looking more assured in their roles at the back. With time ticking by, Angus Robinson was able to open his account for the season with a tidy finish at the far post.
Meanwhile, next door the Colts B were producing a dominant display. Alexander Jackson controlled the centre of midfield and deserved the 2 goals that he scored. A fine strike from a short corner by Marcus Nicholson and a well taken goal from Oscar Phillips capped of a fine opening 15 minutes. Theo Davenport was a rock in defence constantly repelling any attack, with John Bewicke-Copley providing good support, whilst also setting many attacks in motion. Alexander Sturrock had another quiet game in goal whilst Sam Cave had a steady game on debut.
In the second half, Jordan Hayward was able to round of the
scoring to cap an excellent performance for the Colts B. Thanks must go to Mr
Nicholson for umpiring game on my behalf.
Final score lines were - Colts A 3-1 Colts B 5-0
Next up for the Colts A & B is an away fixture at Stamford -2.30pm Wednesday 25th January.
