'There is a wide selection of healthy food for both boarding and day children' - ISI

Good school food is an important part of the school experience, and at Bilton Grange, the catering team works hard to create a menu which is balanced, healthy and appealing.

Using fresh, locally sourced meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, the catering teams in both Prep and Pre-Prep provide the children with meals that are nutritious and full of flavour.

As a boarding school, every meal is important, and the boarders enjoy the start of the day with a wide choice for breakfast.  From cooked breakfast to croissants, they are able to start the day with a good breakfast.

In both Pre-Prep and Prep, fresh fruit, milk and biscuits are available at breaktime, and in winter the younger children might enjoy hot chocolate and croissants during break before venturing outside.

Lunch in Pre-Prep is a family affair, with every member of staff sitting down  with the children, and ensuring they eat a good lunch.  Younger children are encouraged to try everything, and where possible, we use ingredients from the organic garden, so they may have even had a hand in growing their lunch!

We manage the transition from Pre-Prep to the Prep department very carefully, with the Juniors (Year 4) having their own dining room, and continuing with staff members sitting with them and serving them lunch.  Gradually, they learn to use the self service of the main dining room, which is used by all children in Year 5 and above, and staff join them in sharing lunch.

There is a huge amount of choice, with a salad bar, jacket potatoes and and hot, cold, and vegetarian main meal choices every day. Hot puddings and fruit are always also on offer. Pupils, through their school council, which meets once a month, are always able to put forward suggestions (realistic and otherwise!) for food they would like to see on the menu, and the catering team will try and incorporate these ideas when they can.

With such busy days and with many of our pupils coming from further away, high tea is a popular option, which all children are welcome to stay for, whether day or boarding.
