IAPS Golf Championship 2007
IAPS Golf Championship 2007 Royal Lytham Trophy Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club I wonder what you think of when you hear the name St. Anne’s. Perhaps you think of Blackpool a few miles along the coast with its lights, fairground, pier and beach. Maybe golfers of a certain vintage will recall the ‘car park champion’ of 1979. Of course, I am referring to the extremely talented Spaniard and British Open Champion, Severiano Ballesteros. Well, this year the name is James Waterfield and who knows, perhaps in the future too. When I received details and entry forms for this prestigious event, I had no hesitation in entering James for it. I was then so pleased when his application secured the final place to join a very strong field indeed. James gave a terrific account of himself over the 18 Stableford holes and in fact won his age category. Had the competition been played a week earlier, James would have been eligible for the age category below that which he entered for. This is probably James’ finest achievement in the game to date and is added to a long list of super achievements within school, inter-school and at his local club. What is certain, is that there will be even greater achievements to come for James and I will watch this young man’s progress with great interest. Well done on this fantastic achievement James.
