2nd XI v Bedford

Four
Match report for 2nd XI v Bedford
The second XI came desperately close to their first win of the season yesterday, missing out by 3 runs. In the end, they had to settle for the draw.
On only the second home fixture of the year, the Seconds started well, with Tom Falkingham making an early breakthrough. The first half of the Bedford innings went very well for Bilton, the fifth wicket falling before drinks with the total on 49. The fielding had improved and catches had been held. After drinks, two catches were dropped and fielders started to lose their edge, letting runs get past them. The final Bedford wicket fell in the 29th over with their total on 117.
Bilton’s innings started briskly but soon the team fell foul of their usual mistake: the run-rate slowed to below 3 an over for some time. This meant that the total quickly got ambitious. The realization that this was sliding away came a little late, perhaps, and despite attacking play, particularly from Ben Barwell and captain, Costa Thrasyvoulou, the target stayed elusive. A dramatic final over saw Bilton requiring 10 runs. They were helped but two extras but could not penetrate the field cordon: the final ball needed a four and the team only managed a cheeky single.
