Lions tame Warriors

On 6th June, the BG Lions entertained Abberley Hall for their fourth and final match of the season. Unlike against Bloxham, in this match ‘out’ meant ‘out’!

Abberley Hall won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a slow start scoring just 6 runs in their first 4 overs. However, a higher number of wides and no balls than we would have liked, increased the opposition tally and confidence and they went on to record 91 for 20 overs. Homer and Edwards each took a wicket, Gamaz a catch whilst Bastable ran out one of their men.

With 91 to beat, we took to the square and found Abberley Hall to be better, straighter and more consistent bowlers than we had been led to believe. Initially, we set off in a determined fashion and with regular singles and twos, we quickly reached 35 runs and looked in control. However, in fairly quick succession, we had four bowled out and one run out with little or no increase to our runs score. We managed to compose ourselves and some steady batting saw us move 64 runs. By now, we had retired four of our batsmen and this allowed us to keep them in reserve, whilst giving the entire team the chance to bat, which they did.

In the end, we reached 92 with the first ball of the eighteenth over, to win by a healthy margin and it was great to have Matthew Warriner and Harry Thomas batting at the close of play.

Well done to the entire squad, the parents who supported the boys and to Mr Wheeler and Mr Bevin who have contributed much to the overall squad for the 3rds and Lions.

The team: Brealey, Gamaz, Marshall, Smith, Homer, Owen, Bastable, Edwards, Warriner M, Van der Post, Thomas, Warriner T,  and Kilgour.
