Runs a-plenty for Colts A

The Colts entertained Gt Houghton before the half-term break and were in fine form.  Batting first, we set a total of 125 with Oliver Robinson and Roddy Giles scoring 24 and 25 respectively.  As Gt Houghton took to the crease, the BG bowlers were in no mood to be too hospitable.  Assisted by some confident catching in the field, Jack Rosser took 4 for 10, Charles Ernest 2 for 2, Giles 1 for 11, and Sebastian Jenks 2 for 13 as Gt Houghton finished all out for 44.

At Bedford, not only were the overs limited but so too was the usefulness of the game.  On a small pitch, Bedford made a big total with Giles taking 2 for 28 and other wickets coming from Ernest, Robinson and Oliver Vartan.  Oliver Robinson's fielding was outstanding - a direct hit from square leg being particularly memorable - but there were many examples of athleticism in the field from boys such as Robert Astin and Rory Bennett who helped to keep the boundaries down.  Edmund Krarup took a blow to his shoulder which ended his participation in the game.

In reply, Oliver Trotter and Sebastian Jenks batted sensibly but could not get the tight bowling away.  Jack Rosser went early so with 20 overs still to be bowled the game was effectively over as a competition.  To their great credit, Giles and Robinson batted sensibly, not reducing themselves to slashing across the line in a vein bid for quick runs as our hosts lined the boundary.  Giles ended on 59 and Robinson on 27.
