Colts C XI v Warwick XI
On Saturday 3rd November, the Colts C XII (well X1) travelled to Warwick for their only away game of the season. This was a wonderful match which we led for most of the 40 minutes of play. Both teams fought hard and in the first half we seemed a little more determined to steal the ball and once Cameron got his hands on it, a try always looked likely. We led 7 – 10 at the half time interval and extended this to 7 – 17 early in the second half. Within a few moments, the opposition had scored two converted tries and went into a 21 – 17 lead creating even more excitement amongst the spectators. Our boys rose to the challenge with a fine try and conversion to restore our lead at 21 – 24. However, with just over 5 minutes remaining, we could not have anticipated what was to follow. Perhaps it was tiredness since we played the entire match with the same 11 players whilst Warwick endlessly rolled substitutes on and off. The result of this was that we conceded three late, converted tries to leave the scores at 42 – 24 in favour of our hosts. Just like against Akeley Wood, our boys knew that they had gifted the opposition 21 points, this time in the dying minutes of the game, and they were all speechless with disappointment during our post match debrief. This highlights once again that games are won and lost on mistakes and tiredness; with 5 minutes remaining we could have still won the match! A palindromic number is one that reads the same from right to left as from left to right. Try it with 4224; the score could have been reversed and it would still have reflected the play. We have not mentioned man of the match this season, but for his performance today, Cameron deserves that award. He was our best and most influential player. He scored three super solo tries and his effort was supreme, whether it was running half the length of the long pitch to score or chasing back, trying very hard to stop a number of opposition scores towards the end of the match. He deserved to be on the winning side for sure. Well done to all the boys for a fantastic team effort even if the result just managed to slip away. A lot has been learnt in the last two matches and these lessons need to be carried forward to the next competitive fixtures. The final score was 42 – 24 to Warwick School. Well done to our try scorers: Cameron Greiff (3 + 2 conv) and Daniel Spencer (1). The team: R Bedi, D del Corral, A Kefalas, D Uruchurtu, J Marshall, D Charlton, M Warriner, D Spencer, H Qureshi, C Greiff, J Baragwanath. JMcG,03 11 07
