Colts C XII v Winchester House

On Saturday 10th November, the Colts C XII entertained a competitive Winchester House side. This was another enthralling, hard-fought match and after an even initial period during which both teams measured the opposition, Winchester House produced a fine, converted try. Winchester House led 7 – 0 until just before half time when Cameron Greiff scored a super breakaway try which was expertly converted by Tom Brindley to level the scores. The second half mirrored the first with determined tackling from both sides ensuring that chances to score were few and far between. Winchester House won a try close to the right touch line and about 20 metres out. From there, they attacked the blind side and we were powerless to prevent the score, although the conversion attempt struck the right upright and returned to play, increasing their lead to 7 – 12 with about 5 minutes remaining. One of our more potent attacks, saw a maul cross the opposition line but unfortunately, the ball was held up by Winchester House and we could not take advantage of the resulting 5 metre scrum. Despite our valiant attempts to score the next try, it was in fact Winchester House who managed to do so and their converted try put the final score at 7 – 19.    Well done to all the boys for another fantastic team effort, throughout which they tackled in a very determined fashion and supported each other very well.  The final score was 7 – 19 to Winchester House who just about deserved their victory in this very close encounter. Well done to Cameron on maintaining his good scoring form. The team: R Bedi, D del Corral, A Kefalas, B Rose, J Marshall, M Warriner, D Spencer, H Qureshi, C Greiff, J Baragwanath, T Brindley, A Wray, T Sparrow. JMcG,10 11 07
