1st XV on form again

The 1st XV travelled away to Bloxham, with an opportunity to try out some emerging players, in particular, Oliver Robinson who made his full debut at full-back, looking secure throughout. For the second match in a row, BG scored straight from the kick-off, this time through relentless pressure on the home defence, led by Thomas Falkingham at blindside. Kaamil Wallilay eventually crashed over for the score. The backs again handled well and Luca Illien was able to cross on the right for his first try of the season. Will Richards produced another strong running display and soon scored to take the score to 17-0. The early lead gave scope for some new players to come on, with Salah El-Husseini and Tom Winterton solid in the scrum and George Homer and Charlie Smith making brief appearances, too. Fabio Gomez also had spells on the wing and ran well for his first try for the team.

Continuous changes can disrupt the flow of a side, of course, but all those brought on contributed to another impressive win. Even though Bloxham had plenty of the ball, with some big boys in the pack, BG were able to hold them out and then create and exploit space in the backs. Ben Barwell scored in each half and Marcus Wong continually threatened with his pace, also scoring twice. Roddy Giles began to find gaps towards the end, too, scoring a fine try. With both Roddy and Luca adding a number of conversions, the final score was 53-7. Perhaps most pleasing of all is the fine attitude and sportsmanship displayed by the boys at all times.
