Girls swimming at Oakham.

The first swimming match of the term was against Oakham last Tuesday. A squad of 26 girls travelled for what is an enjoyable and normally close fixture.

The match started strongly with the under 11 medley relay teams coming first and second in the first event. The under 11s continued this with some excellent swimming and another one two coming in the breaststroke (Amelia Swaby and Maja Nicholson) as well as the front crawl (Amelia and Yasmin Walilay). Yasmin also won her butterfly race. Overall the Under 11s won their age group 43-25.

The Under 12 girls swam well against strong opposition and also achieved a one two in the front crawl (Ellie Lewis and Maya Vohrah). These two swimmers also gained second places in the butterfly and backstroke respectively. Well done to all the other 5th form swimmers.

The Under 13s performed well and competed in many of the close races of the afternoon. Unfortunately, these tight finishes did not end in our favour. Genevieve Barton should get a mention for her two second places and also Sasha Cundick (captain for the day) for her second in the butterfly.

The overall result produced a narrow victory for Oakham although the girls know that it could have easily gone the other way.

The next match of the term sees the boys and the girls (for the first travelling) competing against Bromsgrove after the half term break.
