Colts C XII v Akeley Wood

The one that got away!  The match was very evenly contested and there was a lot of rucking early on as both teams tried to win the ball and create some space. On a couple of occasions, our boys ripped the ball out, supplied the backs, the result being two fine tries through Eastwood and Greiff. One of those tries was converted by Bedi to give us a 12- 0 lead after 15 minutes which we maintained until the half time interval. Unfortunately, within 3 minutes of the restart, we allowed one of their players to run virtually unchallenged past many white shirts to score a try which was converted. Four minutes later, a pass within our own twenty-two was intercepted and the resulting try was also converted to put us behind by 2 points.  With 5 minutes remaining, another stray pass close to our try line was intercepted and we fell a further 7 points behind. Two minutes later, Bedi scored a well deserved try after a lot of controlled mauling to close the scores to 17 – 21. We battled hard in the closing minutes but could not free the ball to release the backs and from the final scrum of the match, the opposition won their ball and kicked for touch to bring a super contest to an end. Well done to Akeley Wood for a fine performance and a deserved win. Our boys knew that we had gifted them all 21 of their points whereas we had worked really hard to earn our 17. This highlights that games are won and lost on mistakes made and that right until the final whistle, we could have still won the match!    The final score was 17 – 21 to Akeley Wood. Well done to our try scorers: Jack Eastwood (1), Cameron Greiff (1) and Rohan Bedi (1).  The team: R Bedi, D Corral, A Kefalas, D Uruchurtu, J Marshall, M Warriner, J Eastwood (capt.), D Spencer, H Qureshi, C Greiff, J Baragwanath and M Johnson.   JMcG,17 10 07
