Colts B v St Hugh’s

The Colts B kick-started their season with a gentle run-out against an inexperienced St Hugh’s side. Andrew Carr was first to add his name to the scoresheet, going over in the corner, and Sam Green-Armytage stretched the lead with an accurate conversion. Further tries came from Oliver Trotter (2) and the captain, Miles Porter, who supported Carr’s break after an interception and received a very timely pass from the diminutive scrum-half. Green-Armytage’s kicking added to the points tally, allowing us to go into the break with a comfortable lead.

Neil Taylor and David Bewicke-Copley were replaced in the front row by James Tunstall and Brett Graham whilst Trotter and William Jeffery gave way to allow Saksun Young and Tom Brindley to take to the field. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first although our guests did take some heart from an early break-away try. Porter, Tunstall(2) and Young scored further tries and Green-Armytage continued to convert each try. Josh Harrison contributed by making several powerful runs and the hooker, Dylan Churchill, led the forwards into the rucks and mauls without hesitation.

There will be tougher games to come but this performance gave plenty of cause for optimism.
