Colts C 19/09/2007
The Colts C show their class against a spirited St Hugh’s
On Wednesday 19th September, the Colts C IX entertained St Hugh’s for the opening match of their season. We scored first through Daniel del Corral after five minutes but St Hugh’s replied two minutes later to level the scores. We followed our first score with another fine team effort and try by Anthony Kefalas to regain the lead and lend some weight to the belief that rugby matches are won by the forwards. Some super play from Kit Eastwood supplied his brother Jack, who controlled and fed the backs. They held a good line and ran positively at the opposition who found it difficult to contain our free running and good use of the width of the pitch. Two further tries from Spencer gave us a deserved half time lead of 20 points to 5.
After the interval, our boys came out fired up and did not allow the opposition much time and space to work with. Our forwards were quick to get to the breakdown and the backs supported the man with the ball and continued to run directly at the opposition. Within the first 13 minutes of the second half, Daniel Spencer and Kit Eastwood had each scored two further tries to extend our lead to 40 – 5. In the spirit of the game at this level, we removed our main threats from the field and by putting on reserves for the last 10 minutes, ensured that all 13 squad members took part in the proceedings.
In many ways, this was a very accomplished performance from a Colts C side. However, we may face tougher challenges ahead, for which our tackling needs to improve and this will form the basis of future practice sessions.
The final score was 40 – 15 to Bilton Grange and well done to the try scorers: Daniel Spencer (4), Kit Eastwood (2), Daniel del Corral (1) and Anthony Kefalas (1). The team: R Bedi, D del Corral, A Kefalas, K Eastwood, J Eastwood (capt.), D Spencer, T Newman, M Warriner, H Qureshi, J Baragwanath, C Greiff, T Sparrow and D Uruchurtu.
Well done to all the boys who played very well and acted as good hosts. We are all now looking forward to our next match at home to Abberley Hall on Saturday 6th October.
