1st XI continue success
The 1st XI displayed great heart in their recent victory at the Dragon school in Oxford. The absent James Webb was replaced at the back by Robbie Astin who, along with Edmund Krarup, stood up to the test that was given. BG had a few chances early on but the Dragon keeper kept Ben Barwell and James Walker out. Hurley, Bletsoe and Giles again ran the mid-field and Luca Illien put in a commanding performance, but it was Will Richards who opened the scoring from a short-corner. Dragon’s response was immediate as some soft defending resulted in the ball stuttering over the line. Another BG attack saw Oliver Robinson turning on the ball to convert an awkward chance with the reverse-stick so BG went into the break with a slender lead.
With 10 minutes to go, Dragon were fortunately back on level terms although Callum Grier in the BG goal had made some important saves. Spurred on, BG made an immediate response with a fast-flowing move resulting in Barwell’s lay-off to Robinson being perfectly timed to allow the latter to score his second and BG’s winner.
Henry Bletsoe, Charles Hurley, Will Richards and Luca Illien were awarded their 1st XI colours by the Headmaster on Friday.
