1st XI win at Princethorpe
Princethorpe College 1st XI 2 Bilton Grange 1st XI 3
The first XI tasted victory once again though Princethorpe College refused to serve it up on a plate. James Walker netted the first of his hat-trick of goals a quarter of the way through the match, BG having enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession. It was the ability of Bletsoe, Hurley, Giles, Walker and Illien to move 20 metres forward with the ball at pace that made BG so threatening. The goals refused to come from open-play but today we were able to get shots in from the penalty-corners. Walker added a second with a trademark deft deflection to take BG into the break with a 2 goal advantage.
Walker, again, found the net to increase the lead to 3 but then BG began to dribble too frequently. Athough the back line of Will Richards, James Webb and Robbie Astin did their best to stem the tide, Princethorpe struck with 2 goals in 10 minutes to give BG an uncomfortable last 5. Thankfully, we stood firm. Decision-making had not been at its best but there was no doubting the commitment and skill of the BG boys.
On Tuesday we head to Bromsgrove for the qualifying rounds of the IAPS competition, hoping to emulate the achievement of the Colts in reaching the finals.
