Year 2 visit Holdenby House
Florence Nightingale shows us a soldier’s coat
Year two visited Holdenby House.
We were time travellers and visited Florence Nightingale, Samuel Pepys andQueen Elizabeth 1. We travelled through history and asked lots of questions. Florence Nightingale trained us to become nurses. We washed and ironed bandages, made fresh sandwiches for the soldiers and learnt how to tie a sling and make a stretcher. Florence was a kind lady. Next we met Samuel Pepys and he told us all about his diary of the Great Fire of London. He showed us how he wrote using a quill, ink and blotting paper. He sealed our secret diaries with wax.
Lastly we met Queen Elizabeth 1, she was a strict lady and made us bow to her. She told us about her ailments and showed us some of the strange medicines she used. She helped us make ‘Tussy Mussy’ bags to smell. Mrs Seamer sneezed and nearly had to kiss the toad to ward off the ‘Plague’.
Thank you to our parent helpers; Mrs Park and Lady Daventry who kindly volunteered their time to accompany us.
We had a wonderful day at Holdenby House.
