National Finals for Boys’ 1sts

IAPS qualifier 1
BG made it through to the finals with several convincing performances at the qualifiers held at Bromsgrove on Tuesday. A 1-0 victory over the Downs was followed by a 4-0 victory over Old Buckenham Hall. Bromsgrove restricted us to just a one goal margin but then Beachborough were unfortunate to get in the way of a side at the top of its game, conceding 6 goals. With 4 wins out of 4, qualification was assured but in our final game we lost out to Foremarke Hall, the only school to defeat us this season.
Some excellent hockey was played and both keepers, Richard Brumpton and Callum Grier were in fine form. For the record, the other squad members were Luca Illien, Will Richards, Henry Bletsoe, James Webb, Charles Hurley, James Walker, Ben Barwell and Roddy Giles. The goal-scorers were Walker(3), Barwell(6), Bletsoe, Illien and Giles.
On Wednesday, Robbie Astin, Oliver Robinson and Marcus Wong rejoined the squad and helped the side to a 5 - 1 victory over Oundle with Barwell scoring 1 and Bletsoe and Walker scoring 2 apiece. Had we taken our chances the margin would have been considerably greater but the patterns of play were wonderful to observe.
