14 goals in the first fixtures of the term.

The first match of the season for the girls was at Daventry astro against Stoneygate. The match became a 7 a-side encounter as opposed to the originally planned 11 a-side match. The girls 1st VII started strongly and took control of the match. However, they could not force a goal to demonstrate the authority that they had. It took a rather fortunate goal, a deflection from a cross by Constance Krarup to break the deadlock and enable the girls to settle down. From here on, the girls passed the ball around freely and gave Brooke Millhouse a quiet goal in game except for one occasion from which they scored. Further goals in the first half from Cosima Berry, Ellie Lewis and Hannah Hawkesley meant that the girls had a comfortable lead at half time. With the score line as it was, there were plenty of opportunities for the girls to rotate positions and to make regular substitutions. Helen Francis and Sasha Worrall were solid at the back and repelled any attack. Hannah Brindley worked hard on the left and was unfortunate not to open her account. Genevieve Barton and Ellie added goals in the second half to make the final score line 6-1. This could have been greater had it not been for some great goalkeeping by the opposition keeper.

The 2nd VII started slowly against in experienced opposition although it was pleasing to see their confidence grow as the match progressed and as the goals started to go in. Poppy Hudson worked effectively on the left and was well supported in attack by Alannah O’Donnell, Jess Mason, Polly Holmes and Moira Johnson. The defence, consisting of Jess Bott, Charlotte Newman and Maya Vohrah, worked well to give Olivia Flowers a quiet game in goal. However, as with the 1st VII, a moment of sloppiness enabled the opposition to score. The final score was a pleasing 8-1.

The next set of fixtures will be a much tougher affair against Wellingborough after the exeat.
