2nd XI make super start
The 2nd XI took on Gt Houghton’s 1st XI in the first match of the season on Wednesday and came out on top. Gt Houghton defended well in the first half, their keeper making several splendid saves as BG pressed for the opening goal. Rory Molloy provided a lot of ball for the forwards, Robbie Astin and Oliver Robinson, but their efforts went unrewarded. The mid-field of Edmund Krarup, Denis Kostyan and Kaamil Walilay controlled possession for BG and any breaks from our guests were thwarted by Michael Varley, Freddie Jacques and Philipp Gerstenberg. The captain for the day, Luca Illien, swept up almost everything that came his way so the keepers, Richard Brumpton and Callum Grier, were rarely tested.
Both goals came in the second half, Tom Winterton scoring the opener and Robinson securing the victory with BG’s second. This was a splendid team performance and suggests that the 2nd XI will enjoy the season ahead.
