Mr Tovey be praised!
The Colts C&D were, perhaps, the only team to benefit from the inclement weather last week: the teams had their fixtures moved onto the hardplay area, which benefitted the standard of hockey played hugely. The D side in particular looked sharp and won their match 2-0. The Cs showed improvement but an unfortunate moment saw Winchester House get the winner (1-2).
The C side played first in a slight drizzle. They showed that they had learned some lessons at Milton Keynes, with an improvement in set piece plays. Both restarts and short corners still need work, though: Bilton Grange barely had a shot of a corner, and an error at a restart let the Winchester Centre Forward steal the ball for good individual score. Bilton had shown good determination to equalise the first goal but the late blow was too much.
The D side held their shape well and continued in the same way they had played at MK. With generous teamplay at the front, and the defenders more alert and feeling more sure of their roles, Bilton always looked the better side. Tom Brindley and David Bewicke-Copley were dangerous again, and well supported by Saksun Young and Will Jeffrey. Tom scored the goals.
With two good wins, the D side may yet be their own worst enemies: they are bound to lose players to higher teams this week.
