2008 IAPS Royal Lytham Trophy

What a great chance to play a world famous golf course, unfortunately not the 18 hole course but Royal Lytham’s nine hole course but still a great opportunity. I arrived at the course the day before the competition for a practice round, which did not go very well, but the course was in great condition and I just hoped I had got all my bad shots out of the way before the competition.

91 competitors in the competition and my first tee time was 8.35am. Driving off on the 1st tee my ball went right, just what you want when every one is watching you, but I managed to recover and bogey the hole.

My first nine weren’t fantastic but I managed to score 16 stableford points, we then had lunch in the club house before my second nine holes which went much better, although I blobbed ( didn’t score) the 8th hole I still scored 21 points, giving me a final total of 37.

At the finish I was equal first (in the under twelve section) with a young golfer from Warwick School, fortunately for me, local Lancashire rules are- highest back nine wins, I had the highest back nine with 21 points and the other boy had 15 points. I won. What luck!

We were also treated to a tour of the club house by a past captain who was very interesting with all its history and traditions.

A big thank you to Mr. Stanley Jenkinson for organising the competition, Royal Lytham golf course and my Dad for taking me. Hopefully I can go again next year.
