Lions tamed!
On 7th June, the BG Lions entertained Bedford in a match of mixed weather. It was agreed that we would score 2 runs for a wide, 2 for a no bowl and no balls would be retaken.
Bedford won the toss and decided to bat. They dealt fairly comfortably with our bowlers who were struggling to deal with the wet ball due to rain in the early stages. Bedford produced a good, constant run-rate and went on to post a total of 94 runs from their 20 overs, despite wickets being taken by Rose (2), Kalinowski and Shaybani.
After tea, we came in to bat. By this time, the rain had long since stopped and the ball was now dry, making life much easier for Bedford. Initially, we played some good defensive strokes but our run rate was very low and way below that of our opponents. We seemed able only to manage single runs and this left us with the virtually impossible task of approaching Bedford’s total. Unfortunately, the boys were able only to record 49 runs giving the score that palindromic look which was little consolation really.
Bedford were deserving winners by their comfortable margin and the weather did not play a significant part in the end.
The team: W Kilgour, S Rose, S El-Husseini, C Lockyer, T Gunn (capt.), G Owen, S Shaybani, R Davies, M Guerra, T Kalinowski, M Warriner.
