Colts B delighted

It’s been a month since our last match and I thought that the boys would struggle against Maidwell Hall due to lack of match practice. Then I had to call upon a number of players from the C team after losing Andrew Carr with a broken toe, Tyler Newman with a broken finger, and both Guy Jamieson and Tom Jacques being called up for A team duty.

Captain Sam Green-Armytage lost the toss and Maidwell decided to have a bat first. Tom Brindley was given the new ball and clean bowled the Maidwell opener with the very first ball of the match. Maidwell number 3 came in and started to knock the ball about, scoring runs freely to all parts of the ground. The BG fielders kept to their task, trying hard to stem the flow of runs until eventually Daniel Spencer took a fine catch behind the stumps, then with an lbw, both off Brindley in the same over, things were starting to look good for BG. The best bat for Maidwell decided to chance a quick single, hitting the ball straight to the slick hands of Rohan Bedi who swiftly ran in to remove the bails at the bowler’s end. Try as they did, Maidwell struggled from this point on and only managed to post a score of 74 all out in 20.3 overs, with Harris Qureshi clean bowling two and catches coming from Sam Green-Armytage, James Baragwanath and Tom Brindley. Freddie Wood took a wicket during his first spell of bowling in the B team. Overall a great fielding display from the whole team!

Colts B reply started quite slowly, taking 4 off the first over. The next three overs were slightly different with David Bewicke-Copley and Jack Murphy taking 28, with David hitting 5 fours. David was eventually bowled for 24. We then lost 3 wickets in quick succession leaving Daniel Spencer and Dylan Churchill at the crease. During the next few overs I witnessed the best running and calling between the wickets that I have seen this year from boys of their age. Dylan and Daniel put on 35 runs together with Daniel unfortunately being run out with just 1 run needed for victory. Charlie Reeve came in and Dylan hit the final run for victory.

BG Colts B 75 for 5 in 11.5 overs.

Result.

BG Colts B won by 5 wickets. Man of the match David Bewicke-Copley Mr. P Bevin.
