Colts A update
The Colts A have had a tougher second half to the term after recording 4 victories from their first 5 matches. A draw against Abberley Hall, with Josh Harris scoring an unbeaten 29, was followed by heavy defeats against Bedford (Rory Bennett 26 not out) and then Maidwell Hall.
On Wednesday, the Colts showed great determination to earn a draw at Winchester House. In the traditional form of the game - a welcome relief from the limited overs version - our hosts posted a total of 215 for 3 declared with Charlie Bastable the pick of our bowlers taking 2 for 42. In reply, an early run out did not help matters but Jack Rosser and Rory Bennett put together a splendid partnership before Bennett eventually fell for 21. The spinners tried their best to tempt our boys into indiscretion but it was the returning medium pacers who did the damage. Miles Porter, Charlie Bastable and Tom Jacques all stayed at the wicket for a while but with 4 overs remaining, Rosser was finally dismissed for 40. It was left to Guy Jamieson and Will Jeffery to see us through to a draw, the game ending at 6.30pm. What a splendid game of proper cricket!
