Colts A end on a high
Spratton took to the crease in the first innings of this 20/20 match but soon lost wickets to the splendid bowling of Rory Bennett who completed his 4 over spell with 4 wickets to his name. Jack Rosser also bowled well (2 for 6) as did Charles Ernest (1 for 24), Charlie Bastable (1 for 16) and James Waterfield (2 for 18). Spratton recovered to post a total of 86 all out.
In reply, BG got off to a slow start in the face of some rapid bowling from the Spratton opener. Oliver Trotter again contrived to run himself out and Ernest went on to make 10 runs before being run out as well. Miles Porter (6) and Will Jeffery (2) struggled to get the ball away so Rory Bennett and Jack Rosser were left needing to score several to win. With 2 overs remaining, they had pushed our total to within 16 of the target, running cheekily between the wickets and inducing errors in the Spratton fielding. A loose penultimate over was severely punished to leave us with 2 runs required from the final over. Rosser hit the winning boundary to complete a marvellous victory and inflict upon Spratton their only defeat of the season. Rosser and Bennett finished undefeated on 27 and 10 respectively.
Lukas Lakin, Tom Jacques and Guy Jamieson contributed to the success, a victory earned as ever by the efforts of a team.
