Lions meet their match in nail-biting draw!
On 25th June, the BG Lions entertained Wellingborough in their final match of a wonderful season. On this occasion, it was agreed that we would score 1 run for a wide, 1 for a no bowl and each such ball would be retaken. In the end we played 23 overs.
Wellingborough won the toss and decided to bat. Wellingborough produced a good, constant run-rate and went on to post a total of 98 runs from their 23 overs, despite wickets being taken by Clarke (bowled), Edwards (bowled), Homer (catch) and two run-outs by Lockyer, they were not all out.
After tea, we came in to bat. We got off to a very good start and had doubled their run rate after four overs. Although we kept the board ticking over nicely, the rate decreased and the match was very close and ultimately going to hinge on whether Wellingborough could get us all out. We came agonisingly close to their total with a fine haul of 95 runs and every credit goes to Warriner and Guerra who played well and managed to avoid being out as the last men in.
A draw was probably just about the correct result for both teams’ endeavours.
The team: S Rose, G Homer, S Shaybani, J Clarke, C Edwards, R Davies, C Lockyer, T Gunn, D Malkin, M Warriner and M Guerra.
