Girls 1st XI repeat tournament result

The girls’ busy end to the season continued with a trip to Princethorpe and they were keen to repeat their performance when they beat them in the County tournament.

The team started slowly and it took them awhile to get into their stride. However, there were glimpses of flowing hockey as they looked to get the all important opening goal. Some resolute defending from Princethorpe and poor passing limited the opportunities to score. The defence held firm to repel some Princethorpe attacks despite a couple of nervy moments when the forwards broke through.

After a brief team talk at half time, the girls came out strongly in the second half and looked to attack. They started to bring more width to their game with Constance Krarup and Hannah Brindley performing well on the wings. Early in the half, a short corner was won and after the ball was moved around the top of the ‘D’, Hannah Hawkesley produced a smart save from the keeper. However, the ball fell to Genevieve Barton who placed the rebound neatly passed the recovering keeper. No further goals followed with Princethorpe being restricted by a team who were prepared to work hard for each other as they looked to protect their lead.

The next opponents for the 1st XI are Tudor Hall tomorrow (Saturday).
