Year 3 Egyptian Day

The children dressed up as Ancient Egyptians. They wore collars and head-dresses and had their eyes made-up in traditional black eye-liner.

The children were given an insight into everyday Egyptian Life. They enjoyed learning about the Egyptian Gods and the Afterlife. Of particular interest was the Ceremony of the Weighing of the Heart, where the Feather of Truth decided whether a person (a heart) had done more good than evil in their life. A heart lighter than the feather meant that the dead person could go forward into the afterlife, a heart heavier than the feather could not. The children learnt about the Pharaohs, Rameses the Second, Amenhotep and Hatshepsut and whether they made it to the Afterlife or not.

After playing a variety of Ancient Egyptian Games and creating the building blocks for a giant pyramid, the children were given the opportunity to be Egyptologists. They had to measure using Egyptian measures, learn to read hieroglyphics and study Egyptian artefacts.
