BG Lions match report
The Lions roar!
Lions secure their first win of the season……
On 14th May, the BG Lions entertained Oakham for their first match of the season, the earlier one having been lost to inclement weather. It was agreed that we would score 2 runs for a wide, 2 for a no bowl and no balls would be retaken.
Oakham won the toss and decided to bat. They faced some consistent bowling from our boys and their batting was decisive, with regular runs being scored. However, their strokes led to two catches through Kilgour and Lockyer and they were unable to defend the wicket on four occasions, being bowled out twice by Homer and once each by Rose and Edwards. Oakham produced 114 runs from their 25 overs before tea.
After tea, we came in to bat. Initially, we played some good defensive strokes but our run rate was very low and way below that of our opponents after 8 overs. By the 10th over parity had been restored and the scores were similar until the 18th over. In the next three overs, our batsmen really opened up, taking 29 runs from 18 balls to reach the required total of 115 with a ball and 4 overs to spare.
The boys were fine hosts and are now looking forward to their next match at home to Bromsgrove on Wednesday 21st May.
The team: A Campbell, W Kilgour, S Rose, C Edwards, S El-Husseini, C Lockyer, T Gunn, G Owen, S Shaybani, R Davies and G Homer.
