Colts A keep their heads up

The Colts A went down against Wellingborough on Wednesday 28-7 at home, but their heads can be held high as the boys didn’t stop fighting until the final whistle with Daniel Spencer going over for a try at the death. Wellingborough started well with a try in the opening minutes, but Bilton came back strongly with some good running from David Bewicke-Copley in particular, taking the game back to their opponents. Some excellent scrummaging from the pack kept taking ball against the head, but our three-quarters couldn’t capitalize, and at the very end of the first half, Wellingborough scored their second converted try to make it 14-0 at half time. Our pack kept up the good work in the set piece during the second half, but couldn’t get through a strong defence and Wellingborough scored two more converted tries to make it 28-0. The boys refused to let their heads drop and right at the very end of the game, Spencer drove over the line for a consolation try, with San Green-Armytage converting thanks to the crossbar. Wellingborough showed us that our running onto the ball requires work in the following training sessions, as their backs looked confident with the ball in hand. His perhaps was the difference between the two teams on the day.  Bilton now need to regroup for the next game at home on Saturday, and to show the same level of determination displayed at the end of Wednesday’s game.
