Help for Heroes

Thank you and congratulations to Bilton Grange girls Catherine and Phoebe who ran a raffle to support the charity, Help for Heroes, at their Roadshow in Northamptonshire.  Catherine and Phoebe worked extremely hard and took £140 on their table. A wonderful effort, girls. Well done!

Help for Heroes supports our wounded and provides practical direct support to those servicemen and women wounded in the line of duty in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In September 2009, Catherine’s mother, Jo Winterton, will trek to Macchu Picchu and she hopes to raise lots of money for Help for Heroes.  This charity is very close to Jo’s heart as she has several friends and family in the Armed Forces and her son, Alex, has just joined the TA.

Jo says, “In addition, I am increasingly watching the friends of my children, boys I have known since they were wearing shorts, putting their lives on the line for us and joining up.

The trek is something I have wanted to do for a long time, so when the opportunity arose, my wonderful and supportive husband agreed that I should go for it.  His support will be put to the test when he has to cook his own supper for 10 days!”

More information on ‘Help for Heroes’

Help For Heroes was the idea of Appeal Chairman Bryn Parry and a group of friends and relations, many of whom have connections with serving servicemen and women. Bryn and his wife Emma wanted to do something to help the wounded and came up with the idea of a sponsored bike ride. They mentioned it to some friends who mentioned it to some more friends and suddenly Help For Heroes was born and growing fast. A flurry of visits to various offices led to the campaign being blessed by the head of the army, Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt.

Help For Heroes does wonderful work for soldiers and other servicemen and women both directly and through its support of other service charities.
