Electronic Teaching

Eddie boiling his eggs!
We began a programme of Electronic Teaching on Tuesday, 23rd June.
You are invited to complete a questionnaire created by the ICT department, please click here.
How does it work?
We continue to email work by Form and class using children’s school email address, broadly in line with the normal timetabled periods, and their teachers have been at their computers to interact with the children and help them through through their assignments.
Details of how children can access their school email addresses can be found below.
Our aim is to continue to offer academic stimulation for the children while they are not in school, to interact electonically with the children to help them with their work and to keep them in ‘school mode’ during this difficult time.
Some examples of Children’s work
We have already received many emails from children with excellent work attached. You will find a selection of work below and there is a gallery of photographs at the bottom of this page.

Year 4 were set the task of re-wrtinig a Fairy Tale so that it did not have a happy ending. Here are two very imaginative pieces!
Cinderella – without the happy ending by Anastasia
Once upon a time there lived a little girl called Cinderella who lived with two horrid step sisters and an evil step mother, Cinderella also had a black cat. Cinderella lived in a lovely house but unfortunatly it had lots of mice in it but these were Cinderella’s only friends. One day Cinderella’s step mum got an invitation to a ball, that evening. The step sisters were so excited because they knew that they would get to dance with the Prince, so in two seconds they were in their rooms sorting out what they were going to wear to the ball. Cinderella saw what her step sisters were doing so she shyly said to her step mum, “ Please can I come to the ball too?”“
No you can’t Cinderella you will stay at home and carry on cleaning the house!” her mum shouted in an spiteful, mean voice. So Cinderella made her way into the kitchen while she was screaming in tears because she wasn’t allowed to go to the ball and would never get to dance with the Prince.
That evening Cinderella’s sisters and her step-mum were dressed up in their best sparkling dresses ready to go to the ball. Everyone was really excited and happy except Cinderella. Within the next ten minutes Cinderella’s sisters and her step mum had gone to the ball so Cinderella went back to the kitchen and started to clean as usual. All of a sudden Cinderella saw a very bright light next to her broom. It was beautiful but she didn’t know what it was.So she tiptoed up to it and suddenly BANG! out came a fairy godmother in a lovely, pink, shining dress and Cinderella was just standing there in her dark, brown scruffy rags. The fairy said “Hello Cinderella.” Cinderella was so surprised at what was in front of her eyes that she was speechless. To cheer Cinderella up the fairy godmother said,” I’m going to get you to that ball!”
Cinderella was so shocked she said “Really, how?” “I would like you to pass me that pumpkin which is behind me then I want you to catch four mice and finally I want you to find me your cat.” so Cinderella watched carefully to see what the fairy godmother was going to do.
With a wave of her wand she turned the cat into a handsome horseman and the four mice in to prancing horses with beautifully flowing manes and tails. All Cinderella could say was “WOW!!!” but there was more….. with another flick of her wand the pumpkin transformed in to a sparkling pumpkin carriage but Cinderella murmured, “ I’m still in my rags I can’t go to the ball dressed in this.”
The fairy godmother said, “Don’t worry Cinderella; we’ll fix that in no time,” and in one more whip of her wand Cinderella was standing there in a stunning blue and white dress. She was also wearing these amazing glass shoes. Cinderella was so pleased that she skipped up to the fairy godmother and gave her a huge hug!
However in a serious voice the fairy godmother warned Cinderella that she must get back before midnight otherwise everything would go back to normal and also that if anything bad happened to anything that she laid magic on, it would straight away transform back to the ordinary.
So off they went to the ball at full speed. But there was trouble ahead. When it was too late the horseman realised that there was a very sharp stone on the road in front of the carriage and CRASH, CREAK!!! the carriage had broken. “Oh no!” Cinderella screamed sadly, “my fairy godmother said that if anything bad happens to any of the things that she laid magic on they would break and everything would go back to normal.” So in five seconds there were four rats on the floor, she found her cat in her arms, a dull, orange pumpkin was sitting on the ground and worst of al,l she was back in her rusty, old rags.
So Cinderella unhappily went back to her house knowing she would never kiss or dance with the Prince and she would have to clean and work for the rest of her life.
Cinderella – without the happy ending by Daisy Sinclair
Once upon a time there was a girl named Cinderella, she had two stepsisters named Bella and Ella. They were both as ugly as squashed jellyfish. Her step mother was really horrible to her but not to her sisters. Cinderella felt like she was being used as a maid. She had to wash the dirty dishes, feed the lovely animals , cook huge meals, clean the house and wash all the dirty clothes.
One sunny day, a messenger came to the house and gave them an invitation to the Princes Ball. It said, The Prince is looking for a bride, please may all the young gorgeous girls come to my Ball on the 20th May. Cinderella asked,“Can I come to the Ball?” Her horrible Stepmother laughed sarcastically and shouted,“ NO!”
On the night of the Ball Bella and Ella got ready; they wore horrible bright yellow dresses, they looked like boiled eggs. When Cinderella was all on her own, her Fairy Godmother suddenly appeared in the air. She whispered “Why aren’t you at the ball?” Cinderella cried that she had nothing to wear and couldn’t get there. Her Fairy Godmother shouted “Bring me four mice, a pumpkin and your big hairy cat!” Cinderella got them all. When the Fairy Godmother had changed them all into four horses, a carriage and a big hairy footman she changed Cinderella’s rags into a big blue ball gown.
When Cinderella got to the ball everyone stopped talking and stared at her because she was so beautiful. The Prince walked over and said, “May I have this dance?” Cinderella said, “Yes” They danced all night but suddenly Cinderella looked at the clock, then it chimed . Cinderella rushed down the stairs, the Prince doesn’t know it but she’d had a lovely time. Her slipper fell off before she got into the carriage.
On the way back home, she ran as fast as a young fit leopard and tripped over a big red bucket. Overnight her foot swelled up, it turned as purple as a Kimbolton blazer. The next day Bella went into London and got lots of fat off her feet. Two days later, when she got back, the Prince knocked at the door and said, “I’m looking for the beautiful girl that I danced with all night at my Ball. I have her slipper, please may all the girls try it on.” Cinderella went first, her foot was so swelled up that it couldn’t fit in! Then Ella tried, her foot was too big it was as fat as a pot bellied pig. Bella tried and it was perfect. She shouted, “ It fits! Now I’m going to marry the Prince!” The Prince looked like his eyes would pop out when he knew he had to marry the ugly sister.
Cinderella had to stay with her ugly sister, Ella, and her horrible stepmother.

Design Technology
Mr Tovey set the following challenge to his Year 5 class - “We now live in a society where quite rightly, re-cycling happens both at home, school and in the work place. Now, thanks to Mrs Morris and Miss Melia, Bilton Grange has its very own Eco-Troopers.
My challenge for you in today’s virtual lesson is to design and create either an item of clothing or a fashion accessory which is made out of house hold rubbish. This could be a working example or a concept depending on how much time you have.
Areas to consider: Jewellery, bags, cuff links, hats, clothing, shoes……the list goes on!
Materials: bin bags, empty bottles, plastic bags, plastic bottles, empty card board boxes, old sweet wrappers, crisp packets, clean cans, newspaper, magazines…
The best (if not all!) pieces will go on display in the DT department on OB day and may even be worn as part of a mini show. There will be prizes for the best designs and projects.
I hope you will take photos of your design journey (please e-mail them to me) and feel free to get the whole family involved.
Happy designing and making and remember…. you must ask mum or dad for permission with all materials and do not help yourself. Finally, take care when working with these materials as some may have sharp corners or edges.
Good luck!”

Year 2 have been working hard on their Design Technology projects too, designing cranes.
Guy’s mother emailed to say, “Guy put in a great deal of thought into his toy crane and although I did most of the hole cutting and sellotaping the ideas and solutions were Guy’s. The base of the crane is sitting on a tin can with a piece of dowling through it which also goes through the flora lid and the base of the upright. This means that the crane can turn 360o. The arm is supported by another piece of dowling to stop it falling out and we put some stones in the bottom of the upright to act as ballast. The bucket can be lifted by turning the dowling to wind up the wool.”
The photo of Guy’s project and other Design Technology projects can be viewed in the gallery below.
Art
Mrs Carlile, Head of Art, asked her year 6 classes to attempt one of the following two projects to link in with their class work this term;
“Landscapes Project
Draw the view from your bedroom window, or another window of your choice.
DRAWING TASK : Think back to when we sketched the landscape view around the school grounds; remember to measure distances between features and try to focus on including interesting natural features. Please use the materials you have available to you. You could use a pencil and piece of white paper however; you may wish to be a little more adventurous and think about experimenting drawing in pen or coloured pencil on different surfaces…newspaper / brown paper / cardboard / tissue paper. If you would like to spend extra time on this task you may wish to add paint to your sketch.I am keen to see your work so keep it somewhere safe and bring it along to your next Art lesson. You could even take a photograph of your finished sketch / painting and email it to me – perhaps for others to view on the website! Or if you have access to a digital camera and an outdoor environment you may wish to tackle the follow task instead.
PHOTOGRAPHY TASK: Create Andy Goldsworthy inspired sculptural creations.
Look at the way the ‘Land Art’ artist Andy Goldsworthy has created artwork using different coloured leaves: http://www.goldsworthy.cc.gla.ac.uk/search/?search=99&what=leavesAs you may need to do outside for this task; please may sure that the adult looking after you knows where you are and that that you are dressed appropriately for the weather… sun cream / hats!Think carefully about the colours of the leaves you choose and the position you place them in.
Take photographs of your creations and email them to me.”
Year 1 were set the task of making an image from items found in the garden. Tommy’s image of a table, complete with leaf legs can be found on the gallery below.

Year 2 History
Year 2 were set the following challenge : In History we have been studying ‘Seaside Holidays In the Past’.
Please encourage your child to think about how different seaside holidays would have been in the Victorian times compared to present day. We would like the children to send a virtual postcard to their teacher pretending that they are a Victorian child on their seaside holiday. When they have finished please email their teacher with the postcard or alternatively your child could bring it into school on Friday. The postcard may take the form of a Word document, a PowerPoint or any other method you see fit.
As an extension you may wish to help your child do an internet search for an appropriate photograph that could be sent with their postcard, alternatively they may wish to draw a typical Victorian Seaside scene.
Please think about activities that Victorian children would have enjoyed; Punch and Judy shows, wearing their best clothes, goat cart rides, Hokey Pokey ice-cream, changing wagons, paddling in the sea, digging with wooden bucket and spades, fishing, sailing.
These are a few good weblinks that you may find interesting.
Sam’s postcard can be viewed in the gallery below.
