A Pleasing End to the Season

Tudor Hall
The Girls 1st and 2nd XI travelled to Tudor Hall for their final school fixtures of the term. They were enthusiastic and wanted to finish the season on a high. The 1st XI played first and, after a slow start to the game, they began to up the tempo and soon started to put pressure on the Tudor Hall goal. Midway through the half, a quick free hit was taken outside the ‘D’ enabling Sasha Worrall the time that she needed to crash the ball home. This gave the girls the confidence that they needed and soon the lead was doubled. Amelia Swaby worked hard on the right wing and her cross was deflected to Poppy Hudson who produced an excellent inch perfect pass to Sasha who gave the goalkeeper no chance from the top of the ‘D’. The scoring was completed at the end of the first half as a ‘not quite textbook’ short corner routine found its way to Ellie Lewis who neatly tucked the ball. The second half produced opportunities but no further goals as the girls pushed forward. The defence had little to do and therefore looked to join as many of the attacks to support the forwards.
After supporting the 1st XI so enthusiastically, the 2nd XI was keen to produce a pleasing performance and finish their season with a win. They started well and looked to dominate the early exchanges. However, they conceded midway through the half and went into half time a goal behind despite some pleasing saves from goalkeeper Jemima Cole. After a rousing half time team talk, the girls came out looking to find an early response. They looked to pass the ball better with Frankie Potter adapting well to her new position in the midfield and the defence playing more as a unit. Unfortunately, they conceded a second after a momentary lapse of concentration. This spurred the 2nd XI into life and they soon developed the belief that they needed. Annabelle Phillips became more dominant in the centre and linked very well with Yasmin Walilay, who was full of running, on the right. They surged forward at every opportunity drawing the defence across which enabled Rebecca Thanangadan time on the left hand side of the ‘D’ to pull a goal back. She managed to score another one moments later and now the 2nd XI fully believed that they could get something from the match. With moments left, Rebecca managed to complete her hat trick and as the ball struck the back board the final whistle went ending a remarkable fight back by the girls and a great way to end the season. Well done.
