Curriculum
At the age of 8, children face new challenges and make new friends. Boys and girls joining the school at this stage, many as boarders, settle quickly and cheerfully alongside those who transfer from Pre-Prep. These are formative years and the skills and values acquired will stand our children in very good stead in the future.
In small classes and under close supervision, children follow an exceptionally broad curriculum, which offers English, Mathematics, Science, French, History, Geography, Religious Education, Classics, Art, Music, Drama, ICT, Design Technology, Swimming, Physical Education and PHSE. Initially, several subjects are taught by a Form Tutor who monitors the progress of the children carefully. Subject specialists predominate in the teaching of children from the age of 10 upwards. The Sciences are taught in modern, well-equipped laboratories as separate subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The children have fun with subjects, through lively emphasis placed on practical experiment and individual research for project work. The same approach is taken with Geography and History and we take maximum advantage of our local area for regular field studies. Our Learning Development Department provides individual help for children with specific educational needs, focusing on strategies to address their particular difficulties. Bilton parents get to know their children’s teachers well and build strong partnerships with the school.
