As part of the DT enrichment programme, Mr Tovey took a group of pupils to Tetrad which is owned and run by a current BG parent. Tetrad supply high-end handmade furniture to some of the top retailers including John Lewis and Laura Ashley.
The pupils were given a guided tour of the site and production line; from the design (CAD) stages, framing and then onto the upholstery stage. To see the production lines in action was amazing and it was great to see top quality British products still being made by hand.
We were also shown how to make a foot stool, which was good preparation, as we were then lucky enough to be able to make one for ourselves, and even better got to keep (although our finished product might not have got past quality control!) The quality of our workmanship was examined and I think we would have all been sacked due to the time it took us all to make them! J
It was a super DT trip, thank you again to Mr Cooper and his team for laying on a great day and it was well worth the long drive up and back!
A special mention should be made to Alan the driver who ferried us safely there and back but also really enjoyed the trip!
