13th October 2015
Bilton Grange was proud to take 16 brass players to the annual Brass Day at Oundle School on Friday 2 October. Upon arrival at the Great Hall complex of Oundle School, a mass warm up with no fewer than 95 musicians provided a flavour of what was to come.
Pupils worked most of the day in groups of different grade levels led by inspiring specialist tutors. After lunch, participants from all visiting schools were treated to a stunning array of talent from Oundle brass players. It was particularly heartening to see OB Henry Cripps, newly minted Music Scholar at Oundle, who played the second movement of Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto quite beautifully.
Another short rehearsal followed, leading to the afternoon concert. Each group played the pieces they had prepared in rehearsals, and it was a most impressive showcase. The day was rounded off with a performance of the same piece that had started the day.
We are most grateful to Mrs Adele Hudson, Head of Brass at Oundle School, for organising this inspiring experience, and to Mr Paul Mourant, our very own brass specialist, for giving up his day to chaperone and instruct our brass players.
