Our 6th Form enjoyed a Hanami Picnic in the beautiful grounds of the school last week. Hanami is a Japanese festival which celebrates the cherry blossom (sakura – Japan’s national flower) and the beauty of nature. Sitting under the cherry trees outside the Conservatory, we ate sushi – with chopsticks, of course! – and drank a Japanese soda drink called Ramune which is sold in glass bottles sealed with a marble. The food was laid out and served by the scholars and Crispin, Rosie and Tommy even made special origami bowls to put the sushi in, to add to the Japanese theme. Mrs Knott kindly came and read some haiku poems to the children while they ate and taught them some Japanese phrases.
