Bilton Grange Preparatory School is one of the UK’s leading Prep Schools. As part of the Rugby School Group we enjoy a close relationship with Rugby School whilst also feeding to all the major public schools in England. Whether our international children join us for one term or several years, we ensure that their time with us is happy and that they enjoy success across the curriculum.
We have a thriving international community, with children from across the world in the boarding houses as full boarders, and sometimes as weekly boarders or day children, when families have opted to move to the UK. All our pupils must speak English in school, and thus their language learning flourishes, ably supported by our EAL (English as an Additional Language) tutors who offer both individual and group lessons.
Parents often choose Bilton Grange in order to prepare their children for entry to top public schools, and in recent years a number of overseas children have gone on to their chosen senior school having won awards or scholarships. To achieve this high level of success, we recommend that pupils are with us for at least three years, and if the family is considering Eton or Harrow, Cheltenham Ladies College or Rugby School, at least four. A key part of what we offer to parents is to advise them on precisely which school is best for their children, whilst ensuring that they are fully prepared for all aspects of the admissions process.
Some families prefer that their children only spend one year with us, before returning to school in their native country. We ensure that these shorter stays are just as enriching for the child, and that they get the absolute best out of their traditional Prep School experience.
The curriculum at Bilton Grange is wide and varied. A strong and innovate academic core is rounded out by excellent sports and creative arts programmes. Outstanding facilities, together with the stunning setting of the school in a 19th Century Mansion, mirroring many features of the Houses of Parliament in London which was designed by the same man, are truly unrivalled, and yet within only 50 minutes’ train journey to London, and 30 minutes taxi journey to Birmingham Airport, so easily accessible for overseas families.
Boarding houses are warm and friendly. Our experienced Assistant Head Boarding, Mr Tovey, together with a team of House mothers, matrons and our school nurse, keep in close contact with parents throughout a child’s time with us. Both boys’ and girls’ houses are within the main school building, with each set of houseparents living within the boarding house, and our school nurse living on site. We have matrons who stay up throughout the night so that any child who is unwell or unhappy is seen to straight away. The children’s clothes are all washed regularly, and we ensure that the children themselves are washed regularly too!
Our International Admissions Registrar, Caroline Morgan, handles all aspects of international admissions. Whether via an agent, or direct, she will guide you through the process. We ask that all children, for whom English is an additional language, undergo assessment, however this does not have to be taken at the school and may instead be taken at the candidate’s current school or via a digital link. We like to meet all families considering Bilton Grange, either through them visiting and touring the school, or via a Teams interview. We also request copies of current school reports translated into English, a current passport and, wherever possible, a UKiset report. UKiset gives us a good insight into underlying ability. For more information, please visit www.ukiset.com.
For further information on international admissions, please contact Caroline Morgan. Bilton Grange holds a UK Border Agency Child Student Visa Sponsorship Licence. This means we are licensed to sponsor non-UK nationals to obtain their Child Student visa as quickly as possible. Please note that we do not currently sponsor visas for day places. The school will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) directly to the UK Border Agency. The CAS number is provided to the student for presentation with their visa application. The CAS will be issued once we have received the Acceptance Form and deposit (but not more than six months prior to the start of the course).
