Design Technology is a well-liked and popular subject with girls and boys across the School and our pupils enjoy learning, designing and creating in one of the best equipped and resourced prep school departments in the country.
CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture) is fully integrated across the curriculum and is now becoming second nature, even to our Year 3 pupils! The department is also very proud of its new 3D printer and Roland vinyl cutter and milling machine which take the quality of project work to a professional level.
Regular annual trips to the Design Museum in London, continue to keep pupils aware of the next generation of designers and we hope that one day, they will be exhibiting there!
We have excellent Senior School links and we continue to enjoy Design Technology scholarship success to a range of top public schools including Rugby School, Oakham and Malvern, to name but a few.
Aims of the Department
- Introducing and developing pupils subject knowledge in a range of traditional and ‘Smart’ materials, processes and techniques with a secure understanding of how to use hand held tools and operate machines safely with successful outcomes
- Allowing every pupil to explore, develop, research and design ideas, ensuring they end up with a completed personal project in all year groups
- Engaging with local businesses or parents’ companies to see manufacturing or designing in action at the next level
