A new sporting partnership for Rugby

Thursday 25th January

Bilton Grange Preparatory School and the Old Laurentian Society are delighted to announce a new partnership which would involve the School welcoming the Old Laurentian (OLs) Rugby Club and Rugby and East Warwickshire Hockey Club (REWHC) as tenants onto the School’s 90-acre grounds in Dunchurch.

The partnership would see further cutting-edge sports facilities built on the Bilton Grange site over the coming years which would be shared by both clubs and the school, supporting pupils, club members and the wider community, as well as improvements to the infrastructure in and around the school which will also benefit the school’s neighbours.

Alex Osiatynski, Headmaster of Bilton Grange, said ‘I am delighted that we are able to further develop our already-close ties with two of the major sporting clubs in the region and to provide access to and use of the magnificent BG estate to more members of the community. Bilton Grange pupils are renowned for their love of sport and this enhanced partnership will also enable us to further support our pupils’.

Peter Jenkins, the Chairman of the Old Laurentian Society, said ‘We are thrilled with the plans to move to Bilton Grange, where we will be able to share some outstanding new facilities – a great improvement on our current site. The school campus is absolutely amazing and I know all our teams, from minis to adults, will enjoy playing in this new environment.’

Chris Sigsworth, Schools Operations Manager, England Rugby, commented ‘It is so pleasing to see the collaboration of a club and a school working together in the interests of both parties. As part of Age Grade Rugby we encourage clubs and their local education institutes to work together in the best interest of the players and to see how they can support each other’s needs. This is a perfect example of that.’

Julia Bower, Chair of REWHC, said ‘We have enjoyed a close relationship with Bilton Grange over recent years with many pupils playing in our junior section. We are very excited at the prospect of being able to develop these links further, which will definitely be advantageous to both parties, and will enable us to improve hockey provision within the town’.

Royston Hoggarth, Chair of England Hockey, also commented ‘We very much welcome the initiative of the Old Laurentian Society, Rugby and East Warwickshire Hockey and Bilton Grange School, to bring together local clubs from rugby and hockey at one of the leading independent preparatory schools in the UK. This will provide a first class facility that will go a long way to support the growth of participation in the sports in the region. Bilton Grange Deputy Headmaster Paul Nicholson, who plays for REWHC as well as the England Masters’ team (and an Old Laurentian to boot), also expressed his delight at the proposals.
