Outdoors

Anyone who takes children outside regularly sees the enjoyment, sense of wonder and excitement that is generated when children actively engage with their environment. Children need places to explore, experiment, discover, be active and healthy, and to develop their physical capabilities.

Young children learn to assess risk and develop the skills to manage new situations. Education has to be much more than just the accumulation of knowledge. Children today are growing up in a world in which their strength of character will determine their future success. Our children’s ability to think flexibly and be adaptable, to show resilience and persevere when faced with challenges, to show ingenuity and develop problem solving skills, to be an effective communicator and a valuable team member, are all skills which will serve our pupils not only through their school career but through their lives beyond education. Whilst all of this is achievable within the classroom, we truly believe the Outdoors is the best vehicle for developing these skills in our children. On top of the many lessons that take place outside as part of our topic or science work, every class in the Pre-Prep now has a timetabled Outdoor Learning session, held in our amazing outdoor classroom The Wild Gardens. The Organic Gardens are also a favoured spot with year groups and clubs planting and growing during the spring and summer months.
