Pre-Prep Curriculum

The strength of the curriculum at Bilton Grange lies in its perfect balance. Combining a focus on quality-first, core subject teaching, led by our Form Teachers, with an amazing breadth of specialist taught subjects, and co-curricular offerings, means our children have the very best start on their educational journey.

Our small classes ensure that all the children are known and nurtured as individuals and our teaching is highly differentiated, and often presented 1:1 or to very small groups, particularly in the younger years.

Outdoor Learning, ICT, modern foreign languages, dance, PE, games, swimming, art, DT and music are all taught by specialist staff, and form a rich diet of experiences for our pupils. This breadth of opportunity builds confidence that allows them to approach all new experiences positively.

Pre-Prep Creative Arts

Whether it is a Rhythm Time or Create Club session with our three-year-olds, or a Year 3 ‘Hands on Brass’ lesson, the Pre-Prep is always filled with the sound of creativity!

Very few schools could equal the quality of offering that we have here in our Pre-Prep music department. Led by inspiring and talented individuals, we aim to be a beacon of best practice in Music Education, creating intelligent, literate, and creative musicians, with a lifelong passion for all things musical. The strength in what we offer lies in our passion for inclusive practice and developing a love for music in ALL of our pupils.

Music sessions start from the very earliest stage, where our Early Years children develop a love for music that will be with them for life! All children experience playing an instrument from Year 1 and from Year 2 our innovative ‘Hands on…’ instrumental programme begins. Year 2, all pupils learn a bowed string instrument as part of our ‘Hands On Strings!’ programme, and in Year 3, they enjoy ‘Hands On Brass!’, trying out trumpet, trombone or French horn for the year.

Art and DT lessons are held weekly and you only have to walk our corridors to see the strength and creativity in our art provision. Drama weaves through our literacy curriculum and every year group has a range of opportunities to perform on the stage each year.

Pre-Prep Sport

Children need to be physically active every day, and our Pre-Prep curriculum is filled with opportunities to get moving!

Our provision in the Early Years, is perfectly designed to develop the children’s physical skills. The setting is awash with challenging opportunities for children to develop their core strength, gross motor skills, balance, agility and coordination. Nest and Reception both enjoy their curriculum PE time, and from Year 1 we also add weekly swimming sessions in our 25m heated indoor pool, to the timetable.

As children progress through the Pre-Prep, the children are taught the key techniques of the main team games the school plays – hockey, netball, rugby and cricket. Beginning to focus on the correct skills, together with learning the etiquette of competitive matches, equips the children to participate in their first competitive fixtures in Year 3.
