Sport

Sport is taken seriously at Bilton Grange, and we are lucky to have extensive sports fields and facilities, including a new hockey pitch, a 25m swimming pool, a sports hall, newly surfaced netball / tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course and squash courts. From developing motor skills at an early age in their first years at school to preparing elite athletes for sports scholarships at the top end of the school, the range of sports and PE at Bilton Grange is inclusive and unrivalled.

All children have a chance to play and represent the school in the major team sports, but they can also explore other pursuits and passions including racket sports, swimming, golf and horse riding, and we have fixtures against other schools in these pursuits as well.

Michaelmas Term: boys – rugby; girls – netball & hockey

Lent Term: boys – hockey; girls – netball & hockey

Summer Term: boys – cricket & athletics; girls – rounders & athletics

We have a strong record of success at County, Regional and National levels, across different sports and in several age groups. Our Assistant Head, Paul Nicholson currently plays for the England Over 55 Hockey team, and he brings this experience to coaching our 1st XI hockey squad. In addition to our expert coaches on the staff, we have a full calendar of visits from outside coaches and international sports players to inspire and encourage all our sports teams.

Our approach to sport is to be inclusive – for some children sport may not be their most obvious talent. However the experiences of working as a team, and winning and losing graciously, are relevant for all levels of ability and enthusiasm and can give all children the skills to enable them to participate in and enjoy sport.

Whatever the outcomes of our extensive fixtures list against other schools, we welcome and appreciate the huge level of support we have from parents on the sidelines – and everyone enjoys a legendary BG match tea!
