The Nest benefits from a bespoke curriculum designed to ensure that we capture each child’s curiosity enabling them to fully explore and develop their ideas. Our curriculum is based on the following principles:
- Children are supported to learn and develop at their own unique pace
- Play is an essential aspect of each child’s learning and development
- Learning happens when developmentally-appropriate, teacher supported and child-initiated experiences harness a child’s natural curiosity in an enabling environment.
- Learning should be motivating, engaging and fun, opening up a world of wonder for children where personal interests can flourish.
The Nest’s approach is play based, but we also prioritise teacher-led sessions building the children’s basic skills in phonics and numeracy. Innovative and exciting theme based topics are the vehicle for building skills in subjects such as history, geography, science, RE and art. Physical development remains an important part of the EYFS and the children in The Nest have plenty of opportunities to develop their skills through PE, dance and outdoor learning sessions. Building the skills needed in preparation for school is hugely important and so the children gather on the carpet for teacher–led sessions and use the interactive whiteboard to aid their learning in whole group sessions.
