Outdoor Learning

There is nowhere more magical than our ’90 Acre classroom’ and we take every opportunity we can to take our learning outside. Children ‘super-charge’ their engagement outdoors and it offers numerous opportunities to develop vital character skills.

Outdoor Learning is an integral and important part of our curriculum for every year group in the Pre-Prep. We are incredibly lucky to have access to our wonderful outdoor classroom ‘The Wild Gardens’, as well as the Organic Garden, where we grow and harvest fruits and vegetables, the Science Pond, where we see aquatic life-cycles in action, and of course, the Chicken Coop where our hens provide fresh eggs each day.

Through our activities in the outdoor classroom, young children learn to assess risk and develop the skills to manage new situations. Our children’s ability to think flexibly and be adaptable, to show resilience and persevere when faced with challenges, to show ingenuity and develop problem solving skills, to be an effective communicator and a valuable team member, are all skills which will serve our pupils not only through their school career but through their lives beyond education. Whilst all of this is achievable within the classroom, we truly believe the Outdoors is the best vehicle for developing these skills in our children.

In fact, outdoor learning is a huge part of life here. The setting has a picture-book quality and children are given the chance to safely explore their natural surroundings, climb trees and let their imagination run free.
