Art

Aims of the department

  • To give children the opportunity to develop a skill base across a variety of disciplines
  • For children to gain an understanding of the areas in which they can express themselves creatively with confidence
  • To build an appreciation of the enrichment Art can bring, the value of creativity

The Art department at BG provides a broad based education in the Visual Arts; all pupils are encouraged to develop and fulfil their artistic potential.  We support the whole school aims through our programmes of creative exploration.

Throughout their time at BG, the children take part in lessons and activity sessions lead by specialist teachers (in both Prep and Pre-Prep).  The Art curriculum is designed to give all pupils the opportunity to engage with media in both two and three dimensions.  With a view over the school sports pitches, the Art department has a beautiful setting, and we are lucky to have this space and the adjacent sculpture room.  Children will have the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of materials including sculpture, textiles and collage, and will produce work on a variety of scales as individuals or collaboratively in groups.

As children move up through the school, their talent will be identified and nurtured, with the most able in this subject going on to win scholarships and awards at Senior School.
